Dolmen Hotel, Qawra (Malta)

The design concept for this structure was developed by Demicoli & Associates as part of the refurbishment and extension of the Dolmen Hotel through 2017. Officine Bertazzon, a northern Italian steel fabrication company, contracted Forward Structures to design the canopy and its foundations in line with the design concept.

The canopy consists of a series of frames with transverse smaller hollow sections to support the glass panes. Each frame spans 14m across and is constructed out of two members only with a mitred moment connection at the eave joint. Each glass pane is different in dimension to fit the geometry of the fan-like layout on plan.
